St. Matthews Church, Gillette Wyoming

This is St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Gillette Wyoming. It's unusual contemporary design, unlike most of the churches featured here. It's quite hard to photograph, due to the large trees at the front of the church.

  1. Wow! I grew up going to this church! It's so amazing to see it after all these years. When one kind of structure is all you know, it's no big deal, but now looking at this through someone else's eyes, and it being so long since I've been home, this brings me such a sense of nostalgia that I can't help but be grateful for this post. Thank you.

  2. Amy, thanks for your comment, and thanks for stopping in.

I didn't have the opportunity to go inside of St. Matthews, so one of the things I did wonder is what the Church was like inside. I have been inside the other "round" church in Sheridan, but this one appears to be significantly different.

  3. Sorry I didn't respond to your last comment sooner. I've up and moved across the country since that last post (in Canada--from Quebec to Saskatchewan.)

I wish I could offer you some photos of the inside, but alas any photos I could find would be at my mother's house, and they would all be outdated. (Think family photos cerca the 80's and 90's.) It's really beautiful, but again, the last time I was in there was in 2007, and it was only a quick run-through.

I've never been to the one in Sheridan, but I have a friend who's a priest there (that I happened to crush on in the 8th grade! Ha1) I'm not sure if he is with that parish or not, but I'm pretty sure he's in Sheridan. Rob Spaulding? Anyway, very cool. I've told people about your sight since viewing it. And I have my own personal blog, too, so it keeps quite interested in what others are writing.

  4. That's quite a move. FWIW, my mother was from Quebec.

  5. By the way, Father Rob Spaulding is now one of the priests at the Cathedral in Cheyenne.
