Carpenter United Methodist Church, Carpenter Wyoming.

This is the Carpenter United Methodist Church in Carpenter, Wyoming.

Carpenter is a very small, but still there, town in southeastern Wyoming.  Indeed the town is almost in Colorado and and is has much of the character of western Nebraska.  Founded as a railroad town, the town hangs on in spite of its very small size and is quite isolated.

This church was obviously built early on as a Prairie Goth style church and then modified, probably in the 1970s, to have a new entry way.  The entry way is architecturally inconsistent with the remainder of the church so the exact thinking of the addition isn't obvious to an outside viewer.

Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, Old Highlands District, Denver Colorado.

This is the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church in the Old Highlands District of Denver, Colorado.  The church was built in 1890 and at the time it was built, it had no surrounding structures.  The Gothic style church is still a Methodist church today.

This is the First United Methodist Church in Powell, Wyoming.  Other than its location, I can't provide any other details about this modern architecture church.

Christ United Methodist Church, Casper Wyoming

Another one of the many Casper churches I hadn't gotten around to photographing, Christ United Methodist Church as photographed out my Jeep windshield.

I don't know the history of this church but it likely dates to the 1950s.  It hasn't always been a Methodist church and in fact was part of a swap by this congregation for another building they had to another denomination as each of their respective buildings worked better for the other.

Former First United Methodist Church, Port Arthur Texas

This is the Ruby Ruth Fuller Building in Port Arthur, Texas.  It was built as a Methodist Church in 1915.

This church may frankly not belong on this blog, as I really question if Port Arthur can be considered the "West".  I highly doubt it.  I don't know where the West really starts, but it's somewhere west of Port Arthur. Still, this church is west of the Mississippi, so I've included it here.

All of which, I suppose, begs the question a bit.  If churches in Port Arthur are in the South (and there are a lot of churches in Port Arthur, are churches in Houston in the South also?  What about churches in Dallas.  Maybe.  Maybe some are in both the South and the West. What about churches in Oklahoma?

Well, we have no desire to create a vast new profusion of blogs, but perhaps we should add a few for this purpose.  We're pondering that, and have reserved the URLs to do it.  For the meantime, as this posting is at least geographically credible, we'll be content to post this one here.

Unknown former church, Cody Wyoming (but probably the original Methodist Episcopal Church)

This structure in Cody Wyoming was very obviously once a church, which is even more evident if you are closer to it and can see where some of its features have been removed.  It's been converted into a two story retail establishment.  I don't know its story, but it is located directly across from the current Cody United Methodist Church which might, or might not, give us a clue about its earlier history.  At least the story told about the building of Christ's Episcopal Church in Cody would suggest that this is the original Methodist Episcopal church, in which it was built in 1902.

This too is a poor Iphone photograph, and I will replace it with a better photo if the situation presents itself.

Cody United Methodist Church, Cody Wyoming

A very poor Iphone photograph fo the Cody Methodist Church, taken from my truck window.  If I have time, I'll take a better one on some other occasion.

I don't know the vintage of this quite striking modern structure.

Unidentified Church, North Casper Wyoming.

This is the location of a former church in North Casper, Wyoming.  Now its the site of Food For Thought, a charitable organization in Casper.  I unfortunatley do not know what denomination built hte church, although the letters "W M" are on the door, indicating that perhaps it was once a Wesleyan Methodist church.

The church is near a park dedicated to James Reeb, a minister who lost his live in the South during the Civil Rights era, but I do not know of a connection, off hand, between him and this church.

United Methodist Church, Hillsdale Wyoming

This is the United Methodist Church in Hillsdale Wyoming.  Hillsdale is a very small Laramie County town which was probably more viable at some point in the past than it is now, but it's still a town and this church is still an active church is spite of the very small population of that town.

Seward Memorial Methodist Church (and Resurrection Lutheran church), Seward Alaska

This is a Methodist Church in Seward Alaska.  Other than that, I can't relate anything else about it including age, etc.  Resurrection Lutheran Church, which I didn't otherwise photograph, is visible immediately behind it.

First Church, Oklahoma City

The First Church in Oklahoma City is so called as it was the first church established in Oklahoma City. The original wooden structure, very much added to and changed over the years, was first set out in 1889.  The Church is a United Methodist Church, and was directly across from the site of the Murrah Federal Building bombing, in which it was heavily damaged.

First United Methodist Church Laramie, Wyoming

This is the First United Methodist Church in Laramie, Wyoming.  I know very little about this church, but the design in striking.  When I lived in Laramie I used to pass by it often on the way to school and often thought that the church resembled the keel of a ship, upturned.

United Methodist Church, Basin Wyoming

This is the United Methodist Church in Basin, Wyoming.  This style of church is a bit unusual for a Methodist Church, although at least the Methodist Church in Wheatland Wyoming has a similar Federalist style.

United Methodist Church, Worland Wyoming

The United Methodist Church in Worland Wyoming.  This Church fits into the Gothic Architecture category, but like a lot of churches in this region of Wyoming, it has some Romanesque features as well.

Community Federated Church, Thermopolis Wyoming

This is the Community Federated Church of Thermopolis, Wyoming, which serves a combined Methodist and Presbyterian congregation, the first church serving a combined congregation that I've run across, although something similar exists in regards to an upcoming post for Basin Wyoming.

The Church is a classic modern Gothic style church, but otherwise I know nothing about it.

First United Methodist, Cheyenne Wyoming

This is the last of the old downtown Cheyenne Wyoming churches that needed to be added to the blog. I'm unaware of any other of these classically styled Gothic churches in Cheyenne. This one is the First United Methodist Church, which was built in 1890.
