Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Denver

This is the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Denver Colorado, the Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral. It's in a neighborhood with heavy traffic, so these photographs were taken from a vehicle, making them less than ideal. The Cathedral offices, which look like a Greek Orthodox Church, are on the same ground and are also included here. Theotokos roughly translates as Mother of God, so the Cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Community Church, Chugwater Wyoming

Community Church, Chugwater Wyoming. All I know about it is the name.

Mountain View Community Church, Ft. Collins, Colorad

This is a terrible photograph, but it was taken fro a moving vehicle and it was my only opportunity to take the photo. This church was obviously built a long time ago, and no doubt for some other congregation. It's a large, Gothic style church located quite near downtown.

First United Methodist Church Newcastle Wyoming

This is the First United Methodist Church in downtown Newcastle Wyoming.

Christ Episcopal Church Newcastle Wyoming

This is Christ Episcopal Church in Newcastle Wyoming, making this the second Episcopal Church in Wyoming with that name that I'm aware of. It's an older church, but otherwise I don't know anything further about it. It is somewhat difficult to photograph due to the very large tree that is in front of it. Unfortunately, one of my "from the truck" photographs was at an angle, also making for a poor photograph.

Christ Episcopal Church Douglas Wyoming

This is Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas Wyoming. It's an older church, on a downtown corner, but otherwise I don't know anything more about it.

This is Mary Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic Church in Chugwater, Wyoming. Chugwater is a small ranching town in southeastern Wyoming and this church is served by the priest in Wheatland Wyoming, which is some distance to the north.

This is a fairly new church, having been built in 1999-2000, replacing an older church built in the 1920s.

I don't know the age of this church, or its current use, but it was under reconstruction at the time this photograph was taken.

Roman Catholic Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe (Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe), Dallas Texas

These photographs are not great, as I was too close to the Cathedral when I took them. Hopefully they convey some idea of the the appearance of this High Victorian Gothic Cathedral.

Dedicated in 1902 as the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, this cathedral was renamed the Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe in 1977, when another aging Dallas church dedicated to the Lady of Guadalupe was torn down. This cathedral has the second largest parish congregation in the United States.

The steeple on this cathedral was only completed fairly recently, although it was always part of the original design.

St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Buffalo Wyoming

This extraordinary church is located in Buffalo Wyoming. Construction was completed on this long dreamed of Roman Catholic Church in 1950. The architecture is quite unique for Wyoming, and very striking. Adding to it, the church sits on fairly spacious grounds.

Kaycee United Methodist Church, Kaycee Wyoming

Kaycee Wyoming is a small ranching community in southern Johnson County. This Methodist Church is located there.

St Edmund Mission Church, Roman Catholic, Ranchester Wyoming

St. Edmund Mission Church is a small church in the small town of Ranchester, Wyoming. Located just north of Sheridan, the mission is served by the Parish in Sheridan.

Of interest, St. Edmund was a Saxon Martyr and this is the only church I've ever run across dedicated to him.

Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Sheridan Wyoming

This is Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Sheridan Wyoming. This is a pretty church, but it's very hard to photograph because of its location and round shape.

I'm not sure how to classify the architecture of this church, but it has an almost Byzantine appearance.

First Congregational Church, Sheridan Wyoming

This church is also quite near downtown Sheridan, and is one block away from the Methodist church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. It was built in 1898.

First United Methodist Church, Sheridan Wyoming

.
This attractive church is the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan Wyoming. The church was built between 1921 and 1923. The church is located across the street from St. Peter's Episcopal Church quite near the downtown section of Sheridan.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Sheridan Wyoming

This is St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan Wyoming.

I don't know anything about the history of this Church, although I would note that it has a very English appearance. At one time, there was a substantial English expatriate population in Sheridan, which may have influenced the design of this attractive church somewhat.

St. Ignatius Loyala Roman Catholic Church, Denver Coloado

This church located in a busy section of Denver, quite near City Park, is St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church. A school by that name, which it supports, is next door.

The church was completed in 1924 and is a Jesuit church.

St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Denver Colorado

Yet another photograph taken from a car window, this is St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in south Denver. This church, named after the Patron Saint of Writers, is also associated with a Catholic School which is about one block away. The church was built in 1911.

Grant Avenue Methodist Church and Community Center, Denver Colorado

Another bad photograph taken from a moving car, this photograph depicts the Grant Avenue Methodist Church in Denver Colorado.

I don't know much about this south Denver Church, but it has apparently been donated to the community so that it now serves both as a Methodist Church and a Community Center. It was built in 1908.

St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, and St. Cajetan, Roman Catholic Church, Denver Colorado

This is not a great photograph, as I only happened to notice the church in the forefront, which I otherwise had missed, when looking out a hotel window. It wasn't until I viewed the photograph that I realized there were two churches in the photo.

The near church is St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in downtown Denver. It borders the university, and was built between 1898 and 1902. It was originally a church that was the Roman Catholic church for German Catholics in Denver. It's built in the Romanesque style.

A church which is slightly deeper in the photograph, to the right of St. Elizabeth's, is St. Cajetan's Roman Catholic Church. This church was built in 1924 to serve the Hispanic community of Denver, replacing an older church also by that name. It is a Gothic architecture church.

Unknown Church, Riverton Wyoming

This building was obviously built as a church, and apparently is no longer used as one. I don't know anything else about it, other than it is on the same block as the current, and much more recent, Episcopal church in Riverton.

St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Salt Lake City Utah

This is St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. Unfortunately, I don't know any of the details about this church.

Salvation Army Church, Salt Lake City Utah

This poor photograph was taken from a moving car. It depicts the Salvation Army Church in Salt Lake City Utah. I believe this to be the only classically styled church belonging to the Salvation Army that I have ever seen.

First Baptist Church, Salt Lake City Utah

These photographs were taken from a rented car window, so they are less than ideal. At any rate, this is the First Baptist Church in Salt Lake City Utah. The photographs do not really depict this church very well, which is quite large and has a classic English look to it.

First Presbyterian Church, Salt Lake City Utah

This is the First Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. This church, built from 1903 to 1906, is located directly across a side street from the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Madeline, with both churches facing Temple Street.

This church is modeled after Carlisle Cathedral in England, and is constructed out of native stone.

1900 through 1906 must have been an interesting time for those living nearby, as two very impressive churches were being built side by side during that period.
