St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Meeteetse Wyoming

This is St. Theresa Catholic Church in Meeteetse Wyoming. The church was built in 1915 in Cody, and later moved to this location.  It is served by St. Anthony of Padua Church in Cody.

Maria Lanakila Catholic Church, Lahaina Maui Hawaii

This impressive church is the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in Lahaina Maui Hawaii.  The Church was established in 1846 with the present church having been built in 1873. Renovations were done in 1918, including the cleaning of the impressive paintings that are located within the church, gifts of Maui residents who might possibly be King Kalakaua or his sister, Queen Liliuokalani.

One of the very unusual features of this church is the chicken weather vane that is affixed atop the cross on the steeple.  I have no idea what the story behind this is.

 

 The name of the church means Mary Victorious in Hawaiian.

St. Augustine By The Sea Catholic Church, Honolulu Hawaii

This is St. Augustine By The Sea Catholic Church just off of Wakiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.  The church dates its history back to 1845, but it's obviously been rebuilt several times, with the modern church's origin going back to 1910, with additions since then.  The current structure appears very modern, and I don't know of the date of its construction.

First Presbyterian Church, Lewistown Montana

This is the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown Montana.  The Gothic style church was built in 1917.

St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sidney Nebraska

This is St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney, Nebraska.  It's a striking church that was built in 1913, although I wonder if part of the structure may have been added on to much more recently.  If so, the architects did an amazing job of keeping later construction consistent with the original design of the church.

St. Leo Catholic Church, Lewistown Montana

St. Leo's history is nicely explained by the National Registry of Historic Places photograph included above.  This beautiful church is a surprise as Lewistown is not a large town, having a population of only about 6,000 people. The church is very large, and strongly resembles St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Casper Wyoming, which was built at about the same time.

Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hudson Wyoming

This Catholic Church in Hudson Wyoming was built in 1917.  In a way, it shows the limitations of travel at the time, as Hudson is quite near Lander, where there is another Catholic Church. At the time this church was built in 1917, however, travel between the two towns would have been time consuming.

St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clearmont Wyoming

This is St. Mary's Catholic Church in the small town of Clearmont, Wyoming. This Mission church is served by the Catholic Parish in Buffalo, Wyoming. Clearmont itself is a small ranching town. The church was built in 1919.

St. John's Episcopal Church, Jackson Wyoming

These photographs, taken in waning light, depict St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming. There are actually two churches on the location, with this one being the new church built in 1995.

The photographs that appear below are the second church, built in 1916. This church is on the same half block as the 1995 church.

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Dubois Wyoming

This is St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dubois, Wyoming. The church was constructed in 1910, and has been added on to since that time.

Cathedral of the Holy Family, Tulsa Oklahoma

  

These photographs were taken in low light, and therefore they are unfortunately not too good.

These depict Tulsa's Catholic Cathedral, Holy Family Cathedral. Like the other Tulsa churches depicted here, this Cathedral is located in a downtown district featuring many churches. The Cathedral features Gothic and Romanesque architecture and was built in 1914. It was the tallest building in Tulsa at the time it was built. It's a much better looking church than these photographs would suggest.

The church was not built as a cathedral, but became one when Diocese of Tulsa was established in 1972.

St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Denver Colorado

Yet another photograph taken from a car window, this is St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in south Denver. This church, named after the Patron Saint of Writers, is also associated with a Catholic School which is about one block away. The church was built in 1911.

Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Denver Colorado

This church in North Denver is just off of Washington Street and just north of I70. I didn't realize it at the time I took the photograph, but St. Joseph Polish Catholic Church and Holy Transfiguration Russian Orthodox Church are within a three block distance of this one. Had I known that, I would have added them to the photographs as well.

This church was originally in a southern Slavic neighborhood of Denver and was built for the South Slav population there (explaining, I suspect, why there would be a Polish Catholic church just a block away). I am sure that this is no longer the population base of the church, but it is interesting to note that. The church was built in 1918, just after World war One.

The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Denver Colorado

This is the Roman Catholic Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Denver. This impressive church is difficult to photograph, due to it's downtown location and towering heights. It was built in 1911-1912.

Riverton Museum (Riverton Methodist), Riverton Wyoming

This church building was built as a Methodist church in 1916 and served as the Methodist Church until 1960. Now it is the Riverton Museum.
